Dentures

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth and surrounding tissues.

There are two types of dentures. Complete dentures are used to replace all of a patient’s teeth. Partial dentures are used to replace some teeth, and will be used when there are some natural teeth remaining. A patient being fitted with a denture will first have an impression taken of their mouth so the denture can be made to fit the appropriate area exactly. In some cases, a dentist may recommend a patient have immediate dentures. This occurs where a patient has some natural teeth remaining that will be removed for the dentures. The impression of the patient’s mouth is taken before the teeth are removed, so the dentures can be ready to put in at the same time the patient has the remaining teeth removed. By placing dentures in right after teeth are extracted, the patient does not have to spend any time without teeth.

Not only making new dentures, our services also include denture relines, denture repairs and additions of teeth onto your existing dentures. Denture relines are done when your dentures are loose and you find it hard to keep them in place when you speak and eat. A soft reline will require more regular adjustments due to the softer material used to reshape the dentures. Denture repairs fix your broken dentures so that they look brand new again. You won’t see where the fracture line was after denture repairs. We can also add more teeth onto your existing partial dentures if you have lost more of your natural teeth. This way would save you to get new dentures. Dental care does not stop when a person has dentures. It is important that a person who has been fitted with dentures continues to have regular check-ups with their dentist.   Dental care may include the following:

Denture Soft Liner

A soft liner is a layer of soft material, placed between the surface of a denture and a patient’s oral tissues. A patient may require a soft liner to improve gum health: acts such as chewing create pressure on the gums and a soft liner will absorb some of this pressure. A patient may also require a soft liner to improve the retention of dentures: the use of the soft material provides less irritation to a patient than a harder material.

Denture relining might be necessary to increase the retention of a patient’s dentures, to repair dentures or where a patient’s dentures are causing gum discomfort. Denture relines are either hard relines or soft relines. A hard reline involves a pink, hard acrylic being put on the dentures to reshape them and is a longer lasting option.
